Project Description
The project territory (PT) is located in Shet district of Karaganda region, in the hills south of the steppe zone on the border of the two subzones: the dry steppes and desert steppes. In the district center - Aksu-Ayuly village live 5540 people, the population is engaged cattle breeding. On the territory of Aksu-Ayuly rural district grazed 3,5 thousand horses, divided into 4 of the herd, which are on year round grazing. The problem is the unsystematically herds grazing without compliance of grazing norms, which leads to the degradation of pastures Project aim: Increase efficiency of pastures use and decrease of land degradation processes by means of traditional herd horses maintenance, organization of pastures infrastructure for the all-the-year-round use. Project tasks: - Organization of pastures infrastructure for year-round use in the herd horses grazing - Development of template scheme using different approaches of the rational use of pasture with the herd horses grazing. - Creating of forage base for winter-spring horses feeding. - Training members of LC, propaganda of knowledge and experiences in the management of pasture, long-term preservation of their economic and ecological status Project results: In the course of project activities obtained the following results: - Developed the infrastructure for the improvement of working conditions of herdsmen, which will facilitate sustainable use of rangelands and the growth of productive breeding - In the area of 50 hectares planted wheat grass and established forage base for winter feeding of horses - As a result of introduction of the rational use of pastures, increase in body weight of horses by 20 kg / cap for the pasture period, compared with the existing herd - Reduced the load of round aul pastures, localized degradation, increased productivity and forage quality, increased output of livestock products and income members of LC - Prepared the methodological recommendation for rational use of pastures dry-steppe and steppe zones of the republic for herd horse. in the Kazakh and Russian languages - Members of the LC have the notion of a clear dependence: state of pastures - quality and quantity of feed - the level the community livelihood
