Project aim: Erosion prevention through introduction of sustainable water-saving irrigation technologies and training land users new alternative technologies, decreasing degradation processes in conditions of climate aridization Project tasks: - Conduct informational and educational campaign among local community members of rural district Intala and Urdjar on rational use of water and land resources for decreasing processes of degradation and adaptation of population to climatic risks - Introduction of soil saving technology - tunnel irrigation using agromulching film as mulch layer - Introduction of water saving technology - drop irrigation system in foothill desert-steppe zone of Alakol area Project results: - Introduced two technologies: drip irrigation and mulching method, adapted to climate change - Reduced 5-10 times consumption of water for irrigation - Reduced the load on water resources of Tentek river and Alakol-Sassikol lakes system - 2-3 times increased yields - Increased up to 120-150% production profitability - Increased income and improved people s well-being - 30 members of collective farms and 50 low-income families benefited from the project - Soil degradation risks decreased to minimum due to the lack of washout of the fertile soil and water erosion in irrigation furrows - Local community members adapted to climate change by introducing sustainable environmentally reasonable models of land use - Improved socio-economic position of local community by employment assistance of 20 people, increasing productivity of yields 2-3 times, getting high income and decreasing social tension in the village - Held Field days, trainings and demonstrational seminar for showing project best practices and training locals rational use of water and land resources in climate aridization conditions - 100 people took part in project s educational events - Published 500 items of brochure on project activities results - Issued 5 articles in mass media - 8 ha of irrigated lands sustainably managed due to the project activities - 35 members of local community got benefits from project realization - Eliminated risk of land degradation when using mulching film and drip irrigation due to the stopping wind and water soil erosion on the project territory
