Project location:Qeshm(Lat/Long:26.963367-56.248627) Background A project was previously implemented in Berkeh Khalaf AQUACULTURE OF PEARLS BY THE LOCAL COMMUNITY OF BERKEH KHALAF VILLAGE, QESHM ISLAND (PEARLS OF PERSIAN GULF) No. IRA-G52-2003- 031(IRA98G52) . This new project is the continuation of the above project in two pearl farms, Berkeh Khalaf Village and Larak or Hengam Island which are in the vicinity of Qeshm Island The project activities are: Built a oyster farm in Berkeh Khalaf Village and Larak or Hengam Island In Berkeh Khalaf Village the farm will be long line and the second farm in Larak or Hengam Island will be rack A thesis will be done on aquaculture of pearls in Qeshm Island 2 Articles on aquaculture of pearls in Qeshm Island A study on the natural bed of oysters and its stock assesment A study on Eco-biology of Black Lip Oyster A study on the quality of pearls produced in these two oyster farms Empowerment of local fishermen in developing bio-techniques for aquaculture Establish and equip a laboratory for implantation with standard techniques Training local women for implantation of oysters in the laboratory The women which were trained in the previous project will be the trainers and co-trainers in this project Publish a book on the lessons learned, a film on the project activities
