East Coast Railway is planning improvement of circulating area at the Puri Railway Station in dist. Puri, Odisha. Foundation stone for the project was laid on 22nd August, 2016. According to media reports, the circulating area of around 5 acres was carved out of an encroached land near the station. Rs. 20 million has been sanctioned for the development of the area in front of the station; Rs. 15.5 million will be spent for civil engineering works, and Rs. 2.9 million will be spent for electrical engineering works. A big portion of the area will be converted into a modern parking zone. Other amenities proposed are 40 street light poles, water vending machines, water booths, VIP lounge etc. The work is planned for completion by 31st March, 2017. [Info as of: Aug. `16]
