Implementing NGO/CBO: Chiangkharn Concern Group (CCG): Established in January 2011, as a community volunteer group with objectives to preserve community culture and tradition, conserve and rehabilitate natural resources and environment , and serve as local knowledge to ensure sustainability. As a new volunteer organization, CCG used to launch community-based research on small-scale fresh water fishery and activities to reverse degradation trend of the Mekong River in Loei Province s Chiangkharn District. Location of project: Cultivated area in Loei Province s Tambol Chiangkharn of about 1,757 ha, along Mekong River. Due to changing pattern of consumption and agricultural practice, land in project location were under degradation caused by intensive use of chemicals , prompting excessive run-off of chemical into Mekong River. Target Population: 3,074 families in target location of which 65 families practicing small-scale agriculture and fishery are project direct participants. The per capita income is THB: 35,811. Main Activities to be carried out: 1.Launching capacity building through resources inventories, training and meeting 2. Launching demonstration of activities: chemical reduction and up-scaling 3. Launching dissemination of project results 4. Launching participatory evaluation / knowledge management Anticipated Results and Indicators: 1.Increased capacity and awareness of target population witnessed by ability to participate in project activities and compilation of local resources and practices 2. A cultivated area of about 6.5 acre along Mekong River being witnessed as chemical reduction zone ( by 80 % of current amount of application) 3. Estimated reduction of expense on chemical by 60 % of the current figure 4. Emergence of the followings: - a unique model of agriculture along Mekong River bank - one working group/committee to manage natural resources and environment in project location
