Environmental policy and administrative management

Kabhaten region is an intermountain plain located some 50 Km west of Hadibu. In the vast area of the plain there are more than 25 villages. The majority of the population is herders with few working in others sectors. Herding Goats and sheep are the main livestock species kept in the region. Water is the main constraint to community livelihood in the region. In order to secure sufficient water resources for human and animals, community progressively build up rain-water harvest cistern Kariff for use outside rainy season. The project is targeting 215 families in 26 small villages and settlements with population of 1,500 inhabitants. The total water that can be harvest in each season is nearly 8,000 cubic meters. Project will assist in the community awareness rising towards environmental sustainability and rangeland management.
