Previous projects have identified a series of areas where additional support is needed to ensure adequate pesticide life-cycle management: 1. Remediation of several pesticide burial sites/ contaminated sites directly impacting public health and the environment; 2. Development of a system for management of contaminated pesticide containers; 3. The development of systems to strengthen pesticide regulation and tracking of pesticide imports. The project will complete a series of detailed studies and surveys to allow the subsequent implementation of sustainable solutions in the above areas. The project will aim to result in the mainstreaming of the activities into the government work planning structure with allocation of national budget in the future. The project will also aim to maximise inputs from other developing regions. E.g. Technical support from container management experts in Brazil is planned. The project will also designed to act as a demonstration to other developing countries with similar issues.
