Project development Goal: Building community based conservation initiatives in village level to support the government Pati District strategic planning on coastal management Project Objectives : 1.To increase community awareness to rehabilitate coastal ecosystem through planting mangroves in Kepoh and Tluwuk village 2.To encourage the community to find alternate on sustainable organic shrimp/fish-pond 3.To provide knowledge and skills on theory and best practices of organic shrimp/fish pond management 4.To disseminate the ideas and practices of environmentally sound coastal management to broaden public 5.To increase women s role on mangrove rehabilitation, developing strategic planning of coastal villages and managing community organizations. Expected output : 1.Mangrove rehabilitation around the fish/shrimp ponds at least 10.000 mangrove trees on each village 2.Developed two organic shrimp ponds within two villages, 1 hectare each. 3.Three skilled persons for managing organic shrimp pond 4.Twelve persons who can develop village strategic plan within 2 villages 5.Developed of village strategic plan process which is participated by 25 representative persons of each village 6.Three female motivators to manage women groups in three sub-districts 7.Strategic Plan document on coastal management in two purposed sites. Activities to be conducted : A. Preparation and empowering local institutions: 1.Program socialization to community 2.Training on developing coastal village strategic plan 3.Developing village strategic plan B. Implementation of mangrove rehabilitation and organic shrimp/fish pond sampler: 1.Routine discussions 2.Mangrove nursery 3.Planting mangrove trees 4.Maintaining mangrove trees 5.Internship on organic shrimp pond management at Sidoarjo 6.Make organic fertilizer and shrimp/fish food 7.Make the organic shrimp/fish pond sampler C. Dissemination of Information: 1. Routine discussions 2. Talkshow in local radio D. Monitoring and evaluation: 1.Monitoring every six months 2.Evaluation E. Report writing Project Participants and/or beneficiaries : 1.Farmers of organic shrimp/fish ponds in Kepoh village (40 farmers) and Tluwuk village (45 farmers) 2.Villagers of Kepoh and Tluwuk village 3.LP2S Pati 4.District Government of Pati, Central Java The project is managed by a 4-person team of LP2S led by Nur Soekarno, its Program Coordinator. The project will ensure women s participation in both project management and fieldwork. LP2S and the people of each site will jointly own the project. The mutual ownership includes the decision-making process, financing the project and associated risks, data and information generated by the project, and financial benefit from the business activities generated by the project.
