Project location:Mahabad - Kourdestan(Lat/Long:36.766905-45.722351) Project Background: The planning grant Developing a proposal on participation of CSOs in Kaniborazan Wetland Conservation No.IRA/SGP/OP4/RAF/09/PG02 (PG21) was approved for developing a base line and a proposal. Several sessions were held with the local NGO, CBO s the heads of villages and the village councils. During these sessions problems were identified and two local groups; Khor Khoreh Village Local Community (Local CBO) and Taavoni Hefze Mohite Zist Mahabad (Mahabad Local Cooperative) (Local NGO) were interested to get involved in the project implementation. Therefore the project will be implemented by 3 groups and in three parts A, B and C. Project activities: Sensitization on the significance of the wetland through awareness raising and sharing information to locals and educating students in Mahabad, and 2 villages of Khor Khoreh and Ghare Dagh. An academic thesis has been done by Ms. Aghvami (Tarlan Bird Watching Group) on ecotourism zoning of Kaniborazan Wetland and based on it a carrying capacity will be done. Based on this carrying capacity a participatory management plan will be developed with the cooperation of GEF Wetland Project, Provincial Department of Environment (DOE) of Orumiyeh and Tarlan Bird Watching Group. Train the locals on ecotourism activities based on the carrying capacity study, such as preparing their houses and providing services to tourists. Develop newsletter, lessons learned booklet and short clip. Publish children s drawing as calendar. Publish books on birds in native language.
