Promotion of the Charter Les Valeurs Citoyennes de l Ile Maurice Durable in view of making Mauritius a Sustainable Island. 1.1EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 1.2 Introduction The concept of Sustainable Development is gathering momentum throughout the world. Mauritius has embarked on an ambitious project to make the Island a Sustainable Development Island. This could only be achieved if we get partnership between Policy Makers, Private Sector and Civil Society. MACOSS, as a voice of civil society, poised to sensitize, educate and change the mindset of the population. The Sustainable Development Committee of MACOSS under the Chairmanship of Mr Geerish Bucktowonsing, with the help of two specialists Mr Madoo Desha and Mr Manoj Vaghjee devised the seven values of the charter Les Valeurs Citoyennes de l Ile Maurice Durable . 1.3 Action It consists of following elements: : 1. Continuous and consistent advertisements of each element of the Charter in a local newspaper over a long period. (Still finalizing with l Express for sponsorship) 2. Powerpoint presentation of Les Valeurs Citoyennes de l Ile Maurice Durable on CDs meant for distributions in partnership with SGP grantee Environment Care Association to all schools in Mauritius. 3. Projection of 7 clips on Les Valeurs Citoyennes de l Ile Maurice Durable on the MBC TV and other media. 4. Publishing of 1000 copies of the charter (16 pages + cover) meant for distributions to NGOs, Youth and Students. 5. Sensitization campaign in collaboration with the District Council of Pamplemousses/Riviere du Rempart in view to promote the charter Les Valeurs Citoyennes de l Ile Maurice Durable 1.4 Strategy The strategy aims to change the mindset of the population segmented into primary schools students, youth (secondary and tertiary students) & NGO leaders. 1. Continuous and consistent advertisements of each element of the Charter in a local newspaper over a long period. Environment Care Association (ECA) who is already a grantee of UNDP GEF SGP is working on a project for sensitization of students of the primary and secondary schools. They already have the approval of different ministries to proceed with their sensitization campaign. Moreover ECA, is affiliated to MACOSS. In this context, We would collaborate with ECA, Ministry of Education, GEF SGP, Ministry of Environment to sensitize young primary students about Les Valeurs Citoyennes de l Ile Maurice Durable . Specialists would address the audience about the issues via powerpoint presentations. CDs will also be distributed to each student on the occasion. Number of schools: 200 Number of Students: 1000 Number of CDs: 1000 Total cost: Rs 43 700 3. In view to get national coverage, MACOSS intends to project 7 clips on MBC TV. The clip would elaborate on each value of the charter Les Valeurs Citoyennes de l Ile Maurice Durable. Cost of projection on MBC TV: MBC Rate Channel 1 from July to September Time 45 Seconds 17.46 19.20 Rs 7550 Total cost for seven days: Rs 52 850 ( R Time) Details of the cost of the making of the clips Clip 1 Rs 25 000 Clip 2 Rs 30 000 Clip 3 Rs 30 000 Clip 4 Rs 22 000 Clip 5 Rs 25 000 Clip 6 Rs 25 000 Clip 7 Rs 20 000 Total cost for the clips: Rs 177 000 Cost for a 3 minutes clip based on Mauritius: Rs 40 000 Overall total: Rs 269 850 4. Publishing 1000 copies of the charter (16 pages + cover) to be distributed during the regional sensitization campaign: Rs 114 425 5. Regional Sensitization campaign in collaboration with the district council of Pamplemousses/ Riviere du Rempart in the North in view to promote the charter.
