Sisamaro village in Kibosho Ward is among the poor villagers in Kilimanjaro in terms of family income and nutrition. This village boarders Mt. Kilimanjaro forest. The poverty situation has contributed in environment destruction including illegal tree cutting for sell of timber and fuel wood. The collapse of coffee industry in Kilimanjaro and poor quality of coffee produced by many farmers due to dwindling of agricultural extension servicers has also contributed to poverty in this area. This project intends to introduce mushroom as an alternative cash crop to coffee as a source of income to poor communities. Mushrooms requires little capital, shorted harvesting time and also little space but fetch high price thus ensures profitable returns to farmers. The project will train few farmers on mushroom production at their own houses hopping the project will be replicated by other households.The project will also support the mushroom growers to get reliable market.
