Project Description
The Programme for Belize (PfB), established in 1988, is a well-established non-profit, non-governmental conservation dedicated to the conservation of biodiversity and the promotion of the sustainable management of Belize s natural resources. Since its inception, Programme for Belize has been protecting representative biodiversity areas in Belize and has acquired 260,000 acres of tropical moist forest known as the Rio Bravo Conservation and Management Area, the RBCMA. The specific objective of this project is to create awareness on biodiversity conservation, the convention of biological diversity and the importance of protecting the Rio Bravo Conservation and Management Area and climate change through the Green Wave Initiative in 8 schools in the Belize River Valley area and 8 schools in the Mestizo communities, north of the RBCMA. PROJECT ACTIVITIES i. Prior to the commencement of any activity, PfB s technical coordinator will liaise with all the participating schools to develop the specific schedule of events and to discuss possible avenues of more involved participation. ii. PfB will source two trees per school (32 trees) for the tree planting ceremonies. iii. At least one visit of 2 hours by PfB personnel to each school to give a presentation, create biodiversity and environmental awareness and ensure their participation for the main tree planting event of May 22, 2009.
