Project Description
The project on improved natural resources and food security of rural poor households in Svay Rieng province in the context of climate change was developed in a participatory approach among stakeholders such as, villagers, commune council and community based organization that their living condition is affecting to the current climate change. The project is about climate change adaptation strategies in term of natural resources and food security improvement. There are 03 component proposed such as, (1) improving natural resources through promoting local forest conservation, (2) improve access to water resource for life and livelihood and (3) improve income generation from diversify agriculture production. 1.2 Objectives Project Objective: improved natural resources and food security of rural poor households in Svay Rieng province in the context of climate change. 1.3 Outcomes Objective 1: Community based forestry have improved management and protection system for sustainable natural resources conservation as well as mainstreamed into commune development plan Objective 2: Poor households in project target areas have improved access to water for life and livelihood Objective 3: Promoted community adaptation activities enhancing food security and livelihood resilience in 13 villages of Svay Rieng province Objective 4: Gathered impact of climate change for future adaptation development of poor households through vulnerable reduction assessment 1.4 Outputs Output 1.1 (Outcome 1): Agreement on Community forests (Prey Chamka Koki and Monorum) were officially signed between CF management committees and Forest Administration Activities Organize summative workshop of community forestry among 70 people with 50% women from CF management committees, members, local authorities and forest administration staffs to reflect on the result and finding supportive. Prepare legal documents of community forests (Prey Chamka Koki and Monorum) and submit to provincial governor as well as relevant stakeholders for recognize signing Output 1.2 (Outcome 1): 02 community forests (Prey Chamka Koki and Monorum) were physical land demarcated to protect 504 hectares of forests Activities Conduct meeting with staffs of forest administration sub-division, local authorities and management committees of community forests to pointing physical boundaries and inform to villagers around the community land at Prey Chamka Koki and Monorum Conduct physical boundaries with 75 posts (Big: 1.5m x 4cm and Small: 1.5m x 1.5cm) along community forests land demarcated at Prey Chamkar Koki and Monorum Output 1.3 (Outcome 1): 02 community forests (Prey Chamka Koki and Monorum) had in a participatory manner developed a management plan among members and management committee of community forest, and local authorities with support from FA Activities Conduct participatory meeting to develop a CF management plan at Prey Chamkar Koki and Monorum among 60 people and at least 50% women Conduct monthly meetings among CF management committees, CF members, local authorities and forest administration staffs with at least 40% women to improve leadership and management skills on daily monitoring of community forest activities Based on the forest management plan, construct 6,366m road-fire protection system of community forest at Prey Chamkar (4,566m) Koki and Monorum (1,800m) Output 1.4 (Outcome 1): 01 community tree nursery based in pagoda is constructed and 30,000 both long term and fast growing tree seedlings are distributed and planted on at least 40 hectares of community land, pagodas and schools. Moreover the tree nursery supplied 3,000 fruit tree seedlings to communities and private sectors Activities Construct 01 permanent community tree nursery pagoda and produce 30,000 tree seedlings Conduct enrichment and collective tree planting of 80,000 tree seedlings in 40 hectares of community forest land, pagoda, community road and schools Supply 3,000 fruit tree seedlings such as mango, jack fruit, coconut, etc. for selling to communities and private sectors Output 2.1 (Outcome 2): 01 pagoda wild-fish association reviewed its structure and strengthened the management system and leadership Activities Organize meeting among pagoda committees and local authorities to review and strengthen the management structure of pagoda wild-fish association Output 2.2 (Outcome 2) : 875m2 of pond (35m x 25m, Depth: 3.5m) and 935m of small canal (935m x 2.5m, Depth:1.5m) around pagoda was rehabilitated and increased 30% of wild-fish and target groups improved access to water for irrigation and fish production through 50 family based ponds rehabilitated, then mainstreamed into commune development plan Activities Organize bidding meeting through commune procurement committee to rehabilitate pond and small canal based in pagoda for water and wild fish conservation (pond=875 m2 and canal=935m) Support 50 poor farmers (at least 50% women headed households) to rehabilitate family based ponds (12m x 8m, Depth:2.5) (Food for work) Output 3.1 (Outcome 3): 450 poor farmer increased income through application of skills on sustainable agriculture production that is adaptive to climate change Activities Conduct 15 technical trainings on integrated agriculture production focus on vegetable, aquaculture, livestock, cash crop and compost fertilizer for 450 poor farmers with 50% women Support 450 poor families (50% women headed household) to developing home-stead based agriculture production on veget
