The project s broad objectives are as follows: Construction of improved ovens and training of women fish smokers on improved technology of fish smoking to reduce fuel wood consumption in fish smoking by use of bio fuel to save our forest cover and mitigate the effects of climate change and halt the use of carton, protecting the environment as well as ensure access to market and finance, thereby reducing poverty in post harvest fishery activity dominated by women. The specific objectives are based on ecological, social, technological and economic: Social Objectives: Strengthen Community Participation in planning, implementation and decision making in the rational and sustainable use and management of fuel wood by burning briquettes made from groundnut shells. Economic Objectives: Improved accesses to Market and finance for fish smokers to alleviate poverty and increase food security.Smoked products oonsumers receive value for their money and the women fetch better price for their products. Ecological Objectives: Maintain healthy and effective functioning of the forest, thereby protecting important ecosystem through reduced consumption of fuel wood for fish smoking by use of briquettes made from groundnut shells Technological Objective: Increased shelf life of smoked fish and improved quality smoked fish products as well as reduced smoke emission in fish smoking to minimize environmental pollution and occupational health hazards from smoke in fish smoking.
