The village of Monte Largo is located partially inside the Parque Natural do Fogo, in S o Filipe Municipality, Fogo Island. It is a small rural community, where the main source of income of its residents comes from agriculture and livestock. Park Natural do Fogo staff and the local association have been struggling with local community, which sometimes abandon their animals onto park lands, therefore causing negative impacts on endemic species and at times accelerates erosion. In this sense, in close collaboration with park officials and the Delegation of the Ministry of Rural Development, the association will build animal pens for 5 identified beneficiaries. To complement the first activity, the association also is promoting planting of foraging plants.
