Project Description
Project Description
The project objectives are to provide renewable energy to hearing aid users in developing countries and to lower the negative impact on the environment created by disposal of millions of batteries every year. This will be achieved by developing a second generation solar powered charger for hearing aids that can be offered with hearing aids from any manufacturer that are sold or given in developing countries. The hearing aids that will be used with the Godisa charger will have an operating cost that is 75% lower than conventional ones and will be eco-friendly. The new universal charger will offer an accessible energy source for hearing aids to people in rural areas where batteries are difficult to find and expensive. The link between use of renewable energy and the hearing aid is a technological development geared towards solving a health problem and/or disability. It provides a cheap alternative to conventional batteries, protect the environment, and provide a source of income to the manufacturers who are largely deaf. The use of people with disabilities especially the deaf who are largely women is seen as real empowerment as they are part of a vulnerable group. The sale of the products from the project are geared to ensuring its sustainability
