Project Description
This project will be developed on a territory, known as the Besapara hills, which is situated in the South-central region of Bulgaria, district Pazardzik, the municipality of Bratsigovo in the inhabited areas of the village of Byaga and the village of Isperihovo. The territorial scope of this project fall within the frameworks of the Protected zone for the conservation of wild birds BG 0002057 "Besaparski hills" and the future protected zone for conservation of natural inhabited places BG0000254 "Besapara heights"The territory covers the criteria and is proposed for its inclusion into the framework Flora important places (IPA). In the Red list of IUCN nine species of higher plants, which are spread in the Besapara Hills. 8 species of them are in the category "rare" ( Alkanna primuliflora, Alkana stribrnyi, Anthemis ruthenica, Bromus moesiacus, Centaurea mannagettae, Fritillgissichiae, Medicagoa rhodopea and Merendera attica), but one sort is in the category "vulnerable" (Capsella bursa-pastoris ssp. thracica). In this region from the mammals with high conservation importance you can find, the included into the world`s red list of IUCN, hamster (Spermophilus citellus) and porticoloured policat (Vormella peregusna). The region is defined as one of the four most important places for conservation of the birds in the West Rhodope Montains. Two are world-wide threatened (IUCN, 2007) - the King eagle (Aquila heliaca) and the white-tailed buzzard ( Buteo rufinus). This project provides for creation of model orchards ( 4.5 ha, planted with apricot, plum, apple and walnut trees), grown in a biological way with the preservation of the characteristics of the landscape. The way of the growing of perrenial plants ( ploughing of stips of land in which the trees will be planted and the maintenance of short grass vegetation between the rows) is proposed by bio-agriculture specialists and is agreed with experts from " " ( Birdlife in Bulgaria). This will assist the coincident development of steady agriculture activities and the preservation and support of places of inhabitance of the European hamster, the porticoloured policat and the rest of the world - wide threatened species, which are connected to them. Under this project a monitoring of the biological variety is provided for and in particular a monitoring of the hamster Spermophilus citellus) (appendix 2) and of the white-tailed buzzard ( Buteo rufinus) and King eagle (Aquila helica, which monitoring will be realized under a unified methods. In this way the impact of particular agriculture practices on the biological variety in this region will be followed. The presence of many rare and protected species on the territory of realization of this project are a real precondition for the development of eco tourism The involvement of followers will be made with meetings, seminars, bio agriculture training and information materials. The results of this project will be published in the media, in own site and by links in the sites of project "Phodope", "village BG", " " and FLGR. We hope that with the realization of this project, the involvement of followers and the augmentation of areas, grown in a biological way, we should contribute to the protection of valuable plant and animal species.
