Project Description
The Mainstreaming Climate Change Adaptation into Livelihood Improvement Program (MCCALIP) is designed based on results of VRA which was conducted in the targeted villages and with TDSP s stakeholders. The project contributes to reducing the climate change impacts on communities in the project s target areas in 5 villages, Chobvary commune, Preah Netr Preah district, Banteay Meanchey province where the communities always faced natural catastrophe. The key problems identified during VRA are low knowledge related to the climate change concept, lack of water for consumption and irrigation system, and lack of agricultural techniques. The key project interventions to help the target communities to reduce their vulnerability to climate change impacts are the application of agricultural Climate Change Resilience techniques such as integrated farming, home gardening, chicken raising and establishment of women saving group in order to improve family food security. And the projects will rehabilitate community ponds for household consumption; get farmers to set up home gardens and to raise animals. Moreover the projects will promote public awareness about the impacts of climate change on their livelihood by trainings, community forums, and world environmental day, and be able to integrate the Climate Change priorities/projects into the Community Development Plan / Community Investment Plan. The action will promote women s empowerment, enable indigenous people to address pernicious issues caused by the climate change and mobilize multi-stakeholders active involvement in order to improve poor communities livelihoods in the selected villages. TDSP will provide scholarship to the 15 key farmers to stay and learn about integrated farming/Agriculture Resilience Technique from Model farmers/CEDAC demonstration site, and they become a resource person in the long run at the project target areas.
