Project Description
Diksam Shibirow region on Socotra is very dry due to its location, altitude and base rock formation there isn t exist any permanent water sources. Herding is the main occupation for the communities in this region. Hence water supply plays a major role in the sustainability of human livelihood in the region. Local communities perceive that rain water harvest is the only sustainable way to solve their problem and can help overcoming water shortage in the region. The project is to build 21rain- water harvest bodies (total capacity 3,115 cubic meters) for use by human and livestock in the dry season of the year. The project will help communities improving their livelihood through provision of water near their villages, reduce women labour and its impact on pastoralist families, and enhance live condition within the households. Local communities (men and women) will receive several awareness workshops with aim to increase their awareness about surrounding environment and the value and sues of water.
