Kabhaten region is an intermountain plain located some 50 Km west of Hadibu. In the vast area of the plain there are more than 25 villages. The majority of the population are herders with few working in the fishing sector and other economic activities. Herding Goat is the main livestock species kept in the region. Water is the main constraint to community livelihood in the region. In order to secure sufficient water resources for human and animals, community progressively build up rain-water harvest cistern Kariff . The project is targeting 200 families in 25 small villages with nearly 1500 inhabitants. The project will assist community to build up 33 rain water harvest cisterns of different sizes with total capacity of 4,800 cubic meters. Community are adopting a tree planting campaign for threaten species with 500 trees. Further project seek awareness rising among community of the importance of water and vegetation management for sustainable livelihood.
