The area identified is a crucial water catchments area with over 72 springs and tributaries leading to Key Rivers emanating from the same. The project through voluntary efforts is establishing a community based Lembus Forest. The project is and will address environmental problems as well as socio-economic problems through spring protection, promotion of nature based enterprises, conservation awareness and community capacity building towards participatory forest management as stated in the New forest Act 2005. The objective of the proposed projects can be summarized as first, to promote and support rehabilitation and enrichment of greatly degraded sections of Lembus forest areas, secondly to raise and distribute affordable and quality tree seedlings to the adjustment community and lastly to inculcate continued environmental stewardship through awareness raising, capacity building on participatory forest management and tapping from potential nature based enterprises. All these are intended to achieve the overall goal of the project of promoting conservation, sustainable use and management of Lembus forest and associated resources. The project aim at improving the quality of life of the local inhabitants through poverty alleviation. The primary target of this project is Lembus forest adjacent community (women and youth groups, CFA, CBOs, forest resources users as well as local leaders both elected and opinion. Other secondary groups targeted include commercial licensees, private sector, government officials, extension workers and NGOs.
