Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation is implementing a renovation & modernisation of the 2x11.3 Mega Watt Sumbal Sindh hydro power project on river Sindh, district Ganderbal, Jammu and Kashmir. The estimated cost of remaining works is Rs. 90 million. DPR preparation is underway for the remaining renovation & modernisation works. Tenders will be floated after March 2015. According to CEA reports, the remaining works will include replacement of governors, overhauling of MIVs, reconditioning of turbines, procurement of stator air coolers, protection system, replacement of MOCBs by SF6, breakers. D.C. system, 11 KV & LT switchgears etc, new 11 KV cables and procurement of a new 200 KVA Servo Voltage Stabilizer, auxiliary system, replacement of cooling water system, gate valves and non return valves, re-orientation of power communication lines, civil works in headrace channel/Sumbal power canal, construction/ strengthening of damaged Sumbal Spillway, escape channel, protection work of various Nallahs, etc. Electrical and mechanical (E&M) works planned under this scheme have been completed by BHEL except some additional works like re-conditioning of 11kV/LT switchgear, replacement of MOCBs and ABCBs by SF6 Breakers, and replacement of existing excitation system by static excitation.
